GISO – Isolator
For the galvanic isolation of network data cables for audio use
High-frequency interference signals from computer peripherals, the electrical grid and high-frequency components of digital audio signals can negatively influence sensitive analog signals and really spoil the enjoyment of music. Therefore, special transformers have always been recommended in the standardisation guidelines of the professional studio industry for devices that function as "bridges" between the analog and digital worlds (AD or DA converters). These components, which transmit a signal without a physical cable connection in a purely inductive way, prevent or at least reduce the influence of this interference.
ACOUSENCE's many years of experience with high-resolution digital recording formats have even led to several in-house developments for use in our own productions: deivces to better shield sensitive analog audio electronics from high-frequency interference of digital sources and to improve the signal quality on the transmission cables between digital sources and converter units (Jitter issue). Both can be achieved by the use of the finest transformer that is especially optimised for this use.
The considerable qualitative gain through the use of these units then moved us to make this technology accessible to all as an independent product. Because both in home audio use (streamers and audio computers) and professional audio use (data networking and audio over IP), network connections play an ever greater role; these are often in the immediate vicinity of analog units. Since computers and all EDP and network peripherals as a rule have much potential for interference, consistently shielding against interference signals is even more important.
In listening tests, the use of GISO - quasi as a cable adapter before the end device where the analog audio playback takes place - makes for significantly better results. The degree of the improvement always depends on the setup, but the analog audio can gain considerable clarity, subtlety and as a result musicality.
The GISO comes in two options with the same mechanical structure:
The GISO generally features two RJ45 standard network outlets as NEUTRIK-ETHERCON connectors. All standard network cables can plug in to these outlets. For better cable anchorage, cables with solid ETHERCON outlets can also be used. Suitable RJ45 to RJ45 ETHERCON adapter cables are available from us.
GISO DS - for use in hi-fi equipment connected to a streamer
Streamers are usually equipped with 100Base-TX network connections to RJ-45 ports. Because even when using the highest resolution of 24/192, the speed of this standard is more than sufficient. Therefore, according to the relevant standard, GISO DS only has contacts with two of the four connection pairs of a CAT5 or CAT6 cable equipped with a transformer.
GISO GB - for use with music computers and for professional "Audio over IP" solutions
There is also a trend in the professional audio industry today to replace conventional digital audio connections with flexible network structures. As a result, there are now end devices available with a high number of individual channels and high sampling rates. In these cases, full gigabit speed with a corresponding high data rate (1000Base-T) is necessary. Therefore, in GISO GB, all four connection pairs of a CAT5 or CAT6 cable are contacted via a transformer.
In certain cases, the GISO can also be used as a ground breaker solution. However, a prevailing misunderstanding should be mentioned at this point: the main effect of the GISO is not that of a ground breaker (this is only one operating mode and not even the one mainly recommended). The deciding factor is the suppression of interference on signal cables and to improve the signal quality (symmetry among other things), which in turn means less coupling of interference in the end device.
